====== Child Safety & Tricky People ====== //It's important for kids to know what to do if they get lost. This is a good topic to combine with a field trip or visit from a police officer, but if that doesn't work for your group you can sub in another community helper or a different activity for the first half of your meeting.// * Opening Ceremony * Police Visit or Station Tour * Snack & Story Time * What to do if you get lost in a public place * STOP! Stand as tall as possible and stay where you are, as long as it's a safe place. * SHOUT! It's ok to yell or shout, even in a library or other quiet place. If you can't see your grown up, it's ok to be loud. * Find a safe adult * How can you tell if someone is safe? They might be wearing a uniform or a nametag showing that they work at the place you are. If you can't see a uniformed person, look for a parent with kids. * Know your name, your grown up's name, and their phone number. * It's also a good idea to know your address for if you get lost in your neighborhood. * You won't be in trouble! Your family just wants to make sure you are safe. * Whoever you ask for help, insist that you stay in the same area unless there's a big emergency that makes it unsafe. Your family and emergency personnel will be looking for you in the area you were last seen. * Make Child ID Kits * Tricky People * Some tricky people might be strangers * Grown ups should never approach children they don't know or ask them for help. If an adult asks you to help them, find a trusted adult and tell them. * Some tricky people might be people you know * Trust your instincts! * If someone makes you feel weird, tell a trusted adult. * You don't have to be polite * If someone makes you feel yucky, you can tell them, then tell your trusted adult. * Always check first * If someone is giving you a special gift or offering to take you somewhere, ask your adult first. * We don't keep secrets * Not telling someone about a present is not a secret, that's a surprise. Surprises are ok, but if a grown up asks you to keep a secret, you need to tell your trusted adult. * Give some examples and asks the Otters what they should do in that situation * Closing Ceremony ===== Items Needed: ===== ===== Badge Requirements Covered: ===== === Safety Badge === * Know your full name and address * Know your parents' full names and phone number * Make a child ID Kit * Learn about safety around stranger === Service Badge === * Visit a Police Station {{tag>meeting:otter ot_safety:name_and_address ot_safety:phone_number ot_safety:child_id_kit ot_safety:parent_names ot_safety:stranger_safety ot_service:police_visit}}
