Visiting a fire station or doing an ambulance tour is a great opportunity to talk about emergency preparedness. There are a lot of great resources for Otter aged kids through the Prepare with Pedro program from the American Red Cross & FEMA

• Snack & Story Time
  • Recommendation: No Dragons for Tea by Jean E. Pendziwol and Martine Gourbault or Prepare with Pedro from the American Red Cross.
• Make a Thank You Card for the Firefighters or Ambulance Crew
• Emergency Preparedness Discussion
  • Have a Family Emergency Plan
    • Come up with two ways to get out of your home, and know how to get there from every room
    • Where do you meet if you have to leave your home?
    • Family Communication Plan Handouts to take home
  • Calling 911
    • A 911 emergency is when someone needs help right away because of an injury or immediate danger. For example, you should call 911 if:
      • There's a fire
      • Someone has passed out
      • Someone suddenly seems very sick and is having a hard time speaking or breathing or turns blue
      • Someone is choking
      • You see a crime happening, like a break in
      • You are in or see a serious car accident
  • Practice Stop, Drop, and Roll
• Play Red Light, Green Light
