Blanket Forts

Making blanket forts is a great way to teach knot skills to otters! They also love to play in them after they are assembled. Here the blanket fort activity is paired with a craft project, but you could substitute another activity if it works better for your group.

  • Opening Ceremony
  • Talk about knots
  • Teach the reef knot and the sheet bend
  • Steam off game
  • Blanket forts
    • Help the kids tie the knots they learned to make the forts
  • Hang out in the forts for snack & story time
  • Otter Mask Craft Project
  • Imagination play with the Otter masks in their fort (holt!)
  • Closing Ceremony

Items Needed:

  • Knot practice rope
  • Lightweight blankets and rope/paracord for blanket forts
  • Materials for Otter masks
