The opening and closing ceremonies can be as complicated or simple as you like. Bringing in a sense of theatricality can help the kids engage.
Opening Ceremony Script
Old Wolf: PACK! PACK! PACK! Timberwolves to their lairs! Nighttime has fallen and the forest comes alive!
Pack: AAAAAAAOOOOOOO! (Howl like wolves and assemble in their Sixes)
Old Wolf: Up in the sky is a glorious moon, the stars are shining bright, and wolves that know our sacred Law may hunt with us tonight!
Pack: The Cub respects the Old Wolf, the Cub does not give into themselves!
Old Wolf: Who has come to Pack for a night of good hunting? (Old Wolf points to each Sixer)
Sixer(s): Each sixer shares number of scouts present in Six [6] [Red] Wolves!
Old Wolf: Timberwolves, leap from your lairs and be seen beneath the moonlight!!! (Old Wolf points to each Six, Scouts leap from their lairs, march in a circle around the Old Wolf shouting)
Sixes: We are the [color] Six! We are the [color] Six!
Old Wolf: Pack!! (Scouts stop in a circle around the Old Wolf)
Pack: PACK!
Old Wolf: And the wolves creep back!
Pack: Once, twice, again! (Scouts step back with each word)
Old Wolf: Wolves tread lightly in the forest at night, the earth beneath our paws.
Pack: Our paws! (Scouts hold both hands up in front of them)
Old Wolf: So much to see – we stay alert! Sharp teeth, sharp eyes, sharp claws.
Pack: Sharp claws! (Scouts flex fingers into claws)
Old Wolf: Together we play, together we work, and the word of the Old Wolf is Law
(Scouts sit on haunches, with fingers making ears)
Pack: Ollllld Wolf, We Do Our *jump* Best!
Old Wolf: DYB! DYB! DYB! DYB!
Pack: DOB! DOB! DOB! DOB!
Old Wolf: Thank you my Wolves. I believe you when you say that you are ready to go running with the Pack this night.
Closing Ceremony Script
Old Wolf: PACK! PACK! PACK! Timberwolves to their lairs! The sun is rising in the East!
Pack: AAAAAAAOOOOOOO! (Howl like wolves and assemble in their Sixes)
Old Wolf: The mice and owls have gone to slumber, fireflies and bats have too. As a creature of this Forest, I rest my head now, and so shall you. Who is creeping back to their lairs for a long and restful nap? (Old Wolf points to each Sixer)
Sixer(s): Each sixer shares number of scouts present in Six [6] [Red] Wolves!
Old Wolf: Now the time has come for you to bid the Old Wolf goodbye as we prepare to rest. (Old Wolf points to each Six, Scouts leap from their lairs, march in a circle around the Old Wolf shouting)
Sixes: We are the [color] Six! We are the [color] Six!
Old Wolf: Pack!! (Scouts stop in a circle around the Old Wolf)
Pack: PACK!
Old Wolf: And the wolves creep back!
Pack: Once, twice, again! (Scouts step back with each word)
Old Wolf: The full moon is fading and the flowers are waking, shaking off the morning dew. Now, Timberwolves, what say you?
(Scouts sit on haunches, with fingers making ears)
Pack: Ollllld Wolf, We Do Our *jump* Best!
Old Wolf: DYB! DYB! DYB! DYB!
Pack: DOB! DOB! DOB! DOB!
Old Wolf: Ah yes!! The Pack has taught you well. And remember all that you have learned this night: a sharp mind, a courageous heart, and thoughtful words and deeds will always carry you far in the forest. I know that my Pack will Do It’s Best until we gather again. Sleep well, Timberwolves! Good hunting!
